Fish Kuzhambu |
- Fish - 4 fillets (around 10-12 pieces)
- Sesame Oil - 1 1/2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Methi seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
- Small onions - 10-12 nos, halved
- Garlic - 5-6 cloves, chopped
- Tomato - 1 no, finely chopped
- Tamarind extract - from lime sized tamarind
- Coriander leaves - for garnishing
- Salt - to taste
- Water- as needed
- Sesame Oil - 1 tsp
- Small Onions - 10-12 nos
- Garlic - 4-5 cloves
- Tomato - 1 no, chopped
- Red chillies - 2-5 nos (adjust as per spice level or can be replaced with red chilly powder)
- Fennel Seeds - 1/2 tbsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Fresh coconut - 1/2 cup
Method:
- Clean the fish and cut into medium sized pieces and keep it aside
- Heat 1 tsp of Sesame oil in a pan, add small onions followed by garlic and saute for few mins
- Add the roughly chopped tomatoes and red chillies and suate for another few mins till the tomato gets well sauted and raw smell goes off
- Once the tomato gets cooked, switch off and add fennel seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder and give a quick mix
- Allow the mixture to cool down and then grind with fresh coconut to a fine paste
- Heat the pan and add the Sesame oil, once it becomes hot add the mustard seeds followed by methi seeds and curry leaves, saute for a min
- Add the small onions, saute for a min
- Now add the Chopped garlic and saute for 2-3 mins
- Add the chopped tomato pieces and saute for few mins until the raw smell goes off
- Then add the ground masala paste and saute for a min
- Add around 1/2 cup of water (can be adjusted as per required consistency) along with required salt, mix well and allow to boil in low to medium flame for atleast 20 mins (After adding fish, we cannot boil much, so its important to have it cook in medium flame for atleast 20 mins)
- Then add the tamarind extract and allow to boil for a min
- Now add the fish pieces and gently mix it and cook in low to medium flame for few mins
- Since the fish will gets cooked faster, once its done, switch it off
- Garnish with coriander leaves
- Try to give at least an hour of resting time before serving to get more taste!
