Gulab Jamun from MTR Instant Mix |
- Gulab Jamun Mix 200g pack (I used MTR Mix) - 1 no
- Milk (at room temp) - around 1/2 cup (adjust as required)
- Sugar - 3 cups
- Water - 3 cups
- Rose essence/ Cardamom powder - 1/4 to 1/2 tsp
- Oil - for Deep frying
- Pistachios or any nuts for garnishing (Optional)
- In a wide bowl, add in the Gulab Jamun Mix and mix well using fingers so that there were no lumps
- Gradually add in the milk; mix gently and using just the fingers, knead it to form a smooth and little sticky dough
- Cover the bowl and let it stand for atleast 30 mins
- Meanwhile in a wide pan, add sugar and water, mix well and bring to boil (Since I used slightly brown cane sugar, the srup got a brown tint)
- Allow it to boil in medium flame for 10 mins, then add the rose essence or cardamom powder and keep it in warm or switch it off
- After around 30 mins, make smooth small to medium sized balls without any crack (I made balls of gooseberry size so I got around 25) and keep them covered
- Heat oil in a frying pan and once it becomes hot (not too hot), add the prepared balls one by one according to the size of the pan
- Fry them in medium flame until they turn golden brown. Turn them often for even cooking
- Once done, take them off, drain excess oil and place them on a paper towel for 2 to 3 mins
- Then add the Jamuns to the warm syrup (Syrup should be warm)
- Repeat the same for the remaining dough
- Allow the Jamuns to soak in the syrup for atleast 2 to 3 hours
- Serve warm or chilled
- Garnish with nuts if desired
Very interesting blog. A lot of blogs I see these days don't really provide anything that attract others, but I'm most definitely interested in this one. Just thought that I would post and let you know.
